Welcome to the East Swindon Communities Group website. The purpose of this website is to highlight the issues and concerns of local residents against Swindon Borough Council's plans to build 12,000 new homes directly to the East of Swindon, otherwise known as the Eastern Development Area (EDA). The East Swindon Communities Group aims to unite effected communities to the East of Swindon and provide a combined voice of objection and challenge to these plans.
What is the Eastern Development Area (EDA)?
Swindon Borough Council recently released proposals for a new housing development the size of Salisbury to be built directly to the East of Swindon, bordering the A419 and A420. This area concerned is currently greenbelt land and Swindon Borough Council's plans include the construction of at least 12,000 new homes AND associated retail units, schools etc. to be built in this area.
It is our belief that this will significantly increase road traffic, causing chaos on this side of town, whilst increasing the potential for serious flooding to already affected areas, some of which are still getting over the floods of July 2007. Furthermore what was once open fields, where wildlife can roam freely will be houses and streets, with the wildlife pushed further away.
Full details of this development can be viewed on the Swindon Borough Council website www.swindon.gov.uk/spd . Please support our community group; and with your support we can make a difference.
Remember the EDA is not a done deal !
